Tenormin (brand names include: Hipres / Tenormin / Atendol / Altol / Atelol / Antipressan / Atenix / Ateno / Betacard / Blokium / Catenol / Corotenol / Notenol / Oraday) belongs to a group of medicines known as beta-blockers.
Tenormin is indicated for:
treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension);
prevention of angina (chest pain);
treatment of irregular heart beats (cardiac dysrhythmias);
reduction of risk of heart complication following heart attack (myocardial infarction).
Tenormin is not addictive.
Tenormin Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Tenormin exactly as directed.
Tenormin may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. The dosage may differ depending on your condition and whether you are taking any other medicines. Your doctor will tell you exactly how much you should take. The elderly may require a lower dose of Tenormin.
To properly control your condition, Tenormin must be taken every day. Continue taking Tenormin for as long as your doctor prescribes. Do not stop taking Tenormin or lower the dose without first checking with your doctor. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks before the full effect of Tenormin is noticed.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your tablets at the same time you would normally. If it is more than six hours since your last dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you would normally. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.
Store your Tenormin tablets at room temperature. Avoid exposure to heat, light and moisture.
Tenormin Precautions
Before taking Tenormin, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have asthma; low blood pressure; diabetes; or have certain other heart problems;
you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, or you are breast-feeding.
