Furosemide General Info

Furosemide (generic name: Furosemide / Frusemide; other rand names include: Frusenex / Frusid / Frusol / Frudix / Furosedon) belongs to a family of drugs called diuretics. A diuretic helps reduce the amount of excess fluid in the body.

Furosemide is indicated for the treatment of oedema (swelling of the ankles, feet, legs or even the brain or lungs) associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver and renal disease including the nephrotic syndrome.

Furosemide may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Take Furosemide tablets with a glass of water.

Furosemide tablets are usually taken once or twice a day.

Take Furosemide tablets at about the same time each day unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Taking your medicine at the same time each day will have the best effect. It will also help you remember when to take the medicine. Do not stop taking Furosemide, or change the dosage, without checking with your doctor.

If your doctor prescribes Furosemide tablets to be taken once a day, it is best done in the morning, for example, before breakfast.

If you are taking Furosemide tablets more than once a day, take your first dose immediately before breakfast and take your last dose around 2:00 pm (on an empty stomach), unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Make sure you drink enough water during any exercise and during hot weather when you are taking Furosemide, especially if you sweat a lot.

If you forget to take Furosemide and there is still a long time to go before your next dose, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking it as you would normally. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take the next dose when it is due. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Keep your Furosemide tablets at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
